I am at the other end of the spetrum! I like neutral colors always on walls so I can decorate with colorful accessories. The ease with which you can alter a color scheme this way appeals to me. I would have to change the color to a neutral just to feel like home.
Paint Your Walls Any Color As Long As You’re Not Selling
I get questions frequently from folks buying and selling homes about wall color. Many times when a buyer is buying a home they want to know if they can paint the walls with color. My answer is always its your home and you can do whatever you want. I tell them to enjoy their new place and personalize it to make themselves happy. They sometimes come back with “What about when we get ready to sell?”
The first thing to remember is that paint is one of the least expensive changes one can make to their home. Let’s say your daughter insist on a bubble gum pink bedroom. Do It! It will cost under $100 in paint to change this room back to neutral when it is time to sell.
Will the bubble gum pink room hinder the sale when it is time to sell? It might! Some people just don’t realize how easy and affordable it is to change the entire personality of a room with a few gallons of paint.
Personally, I LOVE color! I recently did a new look in my master bedroom. I like my bedroom to have dark walls so it will soothe me to sleep. If there is light, I can’t sleep. I have some great stories I could share about duct tape, band aids and washcloths that I have used at hotels to block the blaring smoke alarm lights or light peering in from under the door, but I will save those for another time.....
I chose a brown paint called Gypsy Leather. I love the name of the color and I love the color. With the blinds down, it feel like a cave in my room which is perfect for a sound night’s sleep. My daughter, Erin, help me decorate around the new color by creating a fun collage of items over my bed. Then she came up with this cool wall shelf which she filled with different color bottles of all shapes and sizes. I love the new look.
I know if I were getting ready to market my home, I would need to lighten up the room and perhaps choose a Sherwin Williams Softer Tan for the walls, but for now – I will enjoy COLOR!
Remember – paint is cheap so enjoy color while you can and when it comes time to sell, neutralize back to boring tan.
