Are You Sure That These Are All the Keys to My New House?

This post has a very good point. Rekey your new home. You never know who has the key copies let alone who knows where hidden keys may be stashed. Just Google " Locksmith " or go to your local Ace Hardware for tried and true good working  copies. Test each key when you get home!

house keysAre You Sure That These Are All the Keys to My New House?  When a buyer buys a home in Clarksville TN the keys are given to him at the closing table. If the buyer asks me, Are You Sure That These Are All the Keys to My New House? then I have to answer No.

I have no way of knowing how many copies of the key were made. I have no way of knowing how many neighbors, friends or family members have had keys. I have no way of knowing if any of those people made copies of the keys. In addition, how do I know for sure that the seller brought all the keys they had to the closing. I don't. So to be safe, rekey your house. The cost to have a locksmith rekey the locks or change them out is small in comparison the security it will give you.

I wrote a previous post describing how my husband and I found out the neighbor boy knew where our hidden house key was and we didn't. In fact all the little neighbor boys knew because they had accompanied our son to the hidden location. Thank goodness they were only 10-year-olds. But this was a real eye-opener about our security.

When you get your locks rekeyed as the new buyer, you will know for sure that you and only you has the keys to your new home. Think how much safer you will feel knowing that all the neighbor kids don't know how to get into you house or anyone else for that matter.

There will be no need to ask, Are You Sure That These Are All the Keys to My New House? because shortly after closing you will be meeting the locksmith there to take care of any potential security problem.

I have long thought that while they clients (buyers) were at closing, that real estate agents should be having their new house REkeyed and the keys delivered to the closing in a ceremony
