Pinterest Tip but,'s a secret!

I love to post a good tech tip or two. If I do not have a good one for the day there is always a blog post that has caught my eye. Check out the Pinterest  AR Group or the series by Melanie Duncan, too. I like this secret tip so you do not overwhelm your Favebook  pals with your new interest.

Pinterest Tip but,'s a secret!

Pinterest Tip but, Shhh ... it's a SecretHave you been hearing all the continued hoopla about Pinterest and you’ve decided to try your hand at it or perhaps you’ve been on Pinterest for quite some time yet, are always looking for some good tips to make Pinterest work better for you?

There has been a lot of advice around social media channels that tell you whatever you do don’t slam the Pinterest World or your followers with hundreds of pins at a time. If you’re just starting out and you may not have tons of followers yet, you likely do not want to scare them away do you? The same holds true if you've already been on Pinterest for a while. (This tip I’m going to tell you about wasn’t available when I started on Pinterest so I likely scared away my share of Pinners.) When you are first getting started with Pinterest there’s an overwhelming, irresistible urge to pin to your hearts content, I know, as I did it. Go ahead, get it out of your system, as we all did it and you’re entitled to this sheer pinning enjoyment . Now that this is behind you, what’s the best way going forward?

Let me tell you about Secret Boards on Pinterest. Yes, they’re called “Secret Boards” but why should we keep them a secret? Secret Boards can help you grow your Boards without ambushing your followers or potential followers to be.

How do you start a Secret Board? From your Pinterest Page, you’ll create a new Board, give the Board a good Title, put in a good description, including applicable key words & hashtags, choose a category and then where it says “Secret” yes or no, you’ll click to select “yes” and save your Board.

Your newly created Secret Board is now for your eyes only. You won’t see it in your home feed and your followers will not see it either; it’s a secret, until you decide to inform the world. Now you can fill up these Boards with a bunch of pins without the ambush I mentioned previously. Particularly when you are pinning for business and pleasure, you don’t want to be viewed as a “Business Only” pinner just like on any Social Media platform, it’s all about the mix of business and personal. So lets say you want to create a few Real Estate Boards such as, I have in Coral Springs Real Estate or South Florida Homes for Sale.  Set your Boards up, keeping them Secret and begin to fill them up with a number of pins until you want them to go live. Once you have filled them up, you can now go back to the Board, edit it, and change it from being Secret by clicking “no”. Your Board will now be available for all to see.  You’ll also want to move it from it’s current location as your very last Board to where you would like to strategically place it amongst your other Boards. Placement of Boards on your page is important and often overlooked by Pinners. Try to organize your Boards so they’re visually and contextually relevant.

Happy Pinning.
