Southern Maryland Best Buys

Should I blog today? How do power-bloggers stay committed?!

Some days the ideas just do not come to you on your posts. How do you get back in the groove? I find I usually miss what's going on with this person or thAt. Then I miss learning all the new sTuff. Then I want to share something I learn. Then I start cranking out the posts again. Join me!

Do I really want to blog right now?

Am I going to do it anyway?

As simple as it might sound, the best bloggers I know on Activerain - or anywhere else for that matter - all sit down at their computers at some point in the day and just...write.  A common question on Activerain is "How do you blog every day?".  Newbies seem in awe that we write like machines with 10+ blogs every week.  Then they read articles on ideas for blogs and still get stuck.  I'll tell you why.

Getting past that first sentence.  Seriously!  When I sit down to write, no matter what "ideas" I have in my head the hardest part is just the first sentence.  My tip to anyone blogging is to tackle that.  Just conquer that first sentence and trust me, the rest will flow.  Even if you have to go back and tweak that first sentence its...a start.

The biggest challenge on sticking with it daily is getting past that first sentence.  It's so easy to sit down, think a bit, get stumped for an "idea", and then just give up.  Don't get stuck!  When you sit down just write the first thing that pops into your head.  That's all it takes.  Once you get that thought down in "print" you'll literally have that first sentence as inspiration for the next.  Pretty soon you've got paragraphs and a blog...kinda of like this post.

What you're reading now is a perfect example.  I didn't want to blog.  So I wrote about not wanting to blog.  The first sentence was literally what was in my head.  That became the basis for explaining...well...why we get stuck.  Writing is easy.  You can do it.  Just start with that first sentence.

I am DEFINITELY not a 'power blogger'.  I'm good to do 2 or 3 in a month!  It takes me 2+ hours to put together one, simply too much time for me to be prolific with the verbage.  Congrats Cheryl on going over 1MIL!
