I picked up the word EDIT on the radio show Sunday. This is in lieu of declutter which may have a more intimidating feel to it. The concept of secondary rooms that do not have to be reduced to no favorite items appeals to Buyers on the move afraid to lose their comfort items.
Does My Home Have to Be Perfect to Be Marketable?
A “Staged” home doesn’t have to be perfect. If you’re preparing your house for sale in Boca Raton it’s important to remember that Buyers are not expecting a “model” home. When I’m providing a Staging Consultation, I can see that my clients are worried that they won’t be able to get that perfect look. They’ve seen the shows on cable television. Consequently frustration and paralysis often sets in.
Last Sunday I was a guest on Margaret Rome’s live radio show All About Real Estate. Mike, her co-host on the show, asked me about his “man cave.” You know what I mean... I like to call it the “I love me” room. Mike wanted to know if he would have to give up his big screen television and all of the things that make this room comfortable for him.
My opinion? As long as this room is not the first room you see, or a primary room of the house, Mike can keep his big screen television and after editing his treasures, still have his man-cave.
Let’s be practical....it’s not easy to move and store a big screen television. Selling your home and moving is stressful enough and my goal as a Home Stager is to help make your home market ready for a quick and reasonable sale and to help make it as stress-free as I can.
Here’s what you want to keep in mind:
1. Secondary rooms may not be as important but Buyers will still want to “see the space.” Help them see it by editing the extra items you have and pack them up for the move.
2. If you really treasure your “treasures” it’s best to go ahead and pack them up now.
3. If your “man-cave” or whatever specialty room it’s become is really the dining room, it’s best to convert it back so it shows its original purpose.
Staging your home doesn’t have to be perfect;
you just want to make sure your Buyer
will be able to see the space and its possibilities.
