Color Inspiration in Design – Nature Never Gets it Wrong

These color schemes inspired from Nature sure POP! Kristine reminds us to always have our cameras handy so we do not miss a thing. In my case, I pull out my IPad and go to town wherever I am perched. Sometimes I think the iPad photos are my best. But then the best camera is the one with you and that iPad is never far away.

Color Inspiration in Design – Nature Never Gets it Wrong

Many times when I’m looking for color inspiration for a Morris County home staging job or redesign project, I look to nature and inspirational photos. I have always found the best color palate comes from Mother Nature who always gets it right!

If you’re looking to create a room with a particular look and feel, go through photographs from multiple sources like Pinterest, photography and coffee table books, or your own photo collection that inspire you.  Below are rooms I looked to some of my favorite photographs for color inspiration.

Because the owner of this redesign project wanted to keep the expensive gold window treatments, we were confined to our color choices. Using pale blue accessories and rich dark furniture really complemented the creamy yellow which also worked with the window treatments...

I used this staged bedroom as an example of how nature and photographs can translate to decorating. I love all of these photographs and how the colors complement each other...

Now that fall's here, I looked for inspiration from my photos which become my muse for decorating for the holidays. All I did was switch out accessories for a festive, fall look...

A few tips: always have your camera, take photographs of anything that speaks to you and/or invokes a special feeling that you want to capture and recreate in a room. Factor in color energy like a calming bedroom or a cheerful, colorful family room. Just like designers use fabric swathes to design rooms, you can use photographs for color inspiration - it really works!
